The itinery for today was to head to Karijine National park and to arrive at about 2pm, take a walk through the gorge and have a swim in the pools there before heading to the accommodation in the park for food.
We left pardoo and made our stop off at Port Hedland (home of the Walkabout) for food. One of the girls on the bus was ill so we took her to the doc's and by the time we left we were an hour or so off schedule so we dicided to eat lunch on the bus to make up some time. Val piped up and gave us abit of info on the plan for the day, where we'd be stopping and what the ETA was, but after about 4 hours driving we stopped off for petrol at karratha. Cause all of us on the bus we're so clever we knew we shouldnt be in karratha and so we had a look at a map. That's another thing, Val didn't have a map, one of the guys on the bus did. Karratha is about 3 hours from Port Hedland, but in the wrong direction to where we should have been heading...Val had missed the turn off and driven us 3 hours in the wrong direction. Once we'd topped up petrol she got back on the bus and didnt say a word about what was going on. We stopped again just up the road for her to go into a shop and presumably ask for directions. Again she didnt tell us what was going on so we had to ask her, and even then she was reluctant to give any information about her mishap away. So Wednesday afternoon for 6 or 7 hours when we should have been in the National park we we're stuck on the bus with no AC. We all tried to get some info from Val and argue our point that we were missing out and that we'd paid to be in the national park so should be there, but she wasn't really interested or concerned.
On the way we called the office and expressed our concerns with them but we were cut short as we lost phone reception. We did speak to the manager tho who did seem concerned.
We got to the park at 10.30pm, a full 8 hours behind schedule, had some food and then went to bed. The accomm there was pretty cool, a massive canvas tent with 10 beds..... the weather tho was like the sea in canada: ffffrrrezing!
