Jobhunting in Melbourne

We arrived in Melbourne Monday, 2 days ahead of schedule and have had a very pro-active start to our trip hunting for jobs. Day 1, 8am, we arrived in the country. By 10am we had ourself a hostel (in st.kilda) and had a walk around to see what it had to offer....spurred on by a few adverts for staff in a few of the bar windows. We then got the tram into the city to set about setting up a bank account and to purchase a mobile phone (My Ausie number is +61415573241) so that all the potential employers could get in touch. We also found out we needed to do our RSA course if we wanted bar work so we got that booked up online for the next day.

Day 2: I updated, printed and photocopied my CV and set about distributing them around the town. One place rang us back straight after we'd been in and so we went back in to tell the boss how long we we're around for, what experience we had had etc. He said he'd give us a call (as yet, still no word). We ventured into the city again to complete our RSA course (Responsible Serving of Alcohol), a requirement for most bars and restaurant work over here. It was a 3 hour course and was dead easy..we passed and got ourselves a certificate.

Day 3, having heard nothing from anybody in St. Kilda we decided to broaden our horizons and hit the city. Armed with a stack of CV's we hit every bar and hotel in sight in hope of getting a job...again a few people said they'd have a lok at our CV's and get back to us. The city is really nice, there's so much to see and there are loads of really nice places..the southbank on the river is really nice and then there's a place on the harbour with loads of shops and bars too. There's plenty to see and so here so it'll kee us occupied for a few months. Hopefully the phone will be ringing with a job offer (or 2) in the next few days. Fingers crossed.
