We are now in the South Island (the same size as the UK, and the population a mere 1 million) We're staying at a place called Nelson, the sunniest place in New Zealand (and so far it's living up to its claim to fame). Its pretty quiet everywhere due to Easter weekend so we haven't really been doing much. There's a National Park just north of here so we are going to try and spend some time up there next week before heading off down the West coast. We have 4 weeks left, and our bus stops at 8 or 9 places so we have plenty of time to stop off and take time to see the sights. The scenery here is really nice, mountains lakes and rivers with a clear blue sky as the backdrop...just what the doctor ordered!
